"When You're Gone" is a song by Canadian musician Bryan Adams, featuring English singer-songwriter Melanie Chisholm, known professionally as Melanie C. The song was released on November 30, 1998, by A&M Records as the second single from Adams' eighth studio album, On a Day Like Today (1998), and is Chisholm's debut single outside of the Spice Girls. Adams requested for Chisholm to be included after his original choice Sheryl Crow never responded. "When You're Gone" was written by Eliot Kennedy and Adams, the latter songwriter also produced the song with Bob Rock. It contains genres of pop rock and soft rock, and is performed as a duet between Adams and Chisholm. "When You're Gone" peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart and at number four on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart. An accompanying music video was released by German film director Marcus Nispel, which depicts Adams and Chisholm inside a three-story nine room house.
